San Ignacio is by far the number one inland destination in the country located 10 miles from the Guatemala border. It plays host to the most concentrated adventure and culture attractions in Central America and all are within 10 minutes to 2 hours travel and easily enjoyed ona day trip using the town as a base. Among those top attractions are: Xunantunich and Cahal Pech Maya Ruins, Butterfly Farm, Iguana Exhibit, Cacao Farm, ATM caves, Crystal Caves, Mountain Pine Ridge, Zip lining, Cave tubing, inland Blue Hole, National Parks, Birding sanctuaries, Barton Creek Cave, kayakking with portage, Belize City Zoo, Black hole drop and much more.

The town is noted as having the best local farmers market in the country and Saturday is the optimal day for a visit. The old town has been largely renovated and there are lots of new restaurants, bars and even one of the only pedestranized streets in the country. It’s also used as a gateway between Guatemala and Belize on a multi destination trip. Elijio Panti National Park is close to the town. The town is an eclectic mix of Latin, Mestizo, Creole and other cultures. who all harmoniously provide visitors with a rare glimpse into the successful and harmonious existence possible between those of varying back grounds. Cayo extends in the East to the Capital City Belmopan which is well worth a visit or using as a base for adventure, The border town of Benque is a budget traveler’s option and the rich and naturally stunning Mountain Pine Ridge has a great offering of premium world class resorts in magnificent jungle and pine forest settings.

Itineraries

Day 1

Arrival Belize San Ignaco

Welcome to Belize! Private transfer (2 hours) from Philip Goldson International airport to the Cayo district in the west of Belize. On the way you can make an additional stop (not included) at the Belize City Zoo, currently rated as the top small zoo in the world. Tonight you will be staying in or near San Ignacio town with its many restaurants, bars and nightlife.

Day 2

Xunantunich & Cahal Pech full day tour

Explore the two ancient Mayan Cities of Xunantunich (lady of stone) and Cahal Pech (place of tics) famous for their battles with Tikal and good examples of the ancient Maya world. Cross the Mopan river on a hand cranked ferry to get to the site at Xunantunich and lunch today is taken at a local restaurant in the village of Succotz. Evening at leisure.

Day 3

Full day Aktun Tunichil Muknal

Rated as the top adventure in Central America by National Geographic the ATM (Aktun —‘Tunichil Muknal) cave system, located near the village of Teakettle, is a throw back to the times when the ancient Maya were fleeing the cities and hiding in the cave systems to make sacrifices to the Gods. Here you can see stalactites, stalagmites, crystal formations, pottery shards and skeletal remains. Access is through a short jungle hike, swimming into a cave and then walking through an underground river. Evening at leisure.

Day 4

Transfer to Airport. Cave tubing en route

Private transfer to the Jaguar Paw area and Nohoch Che`en cave system where you will enjoy a cave tubing experience. After a local lunch you will then continue to airport for your schedule flight.
